Sonny Gray is getting reaccustomed to the Boston Red Sox-New York Yankees rivalry.
"It feels good to me to go to a place where it’s easy to hate the Yankees," Gray said, per the Boston Globe's Tim Healey.
Gray was acquired by the Red Sox from the St. Louis Cardinals a few weeks ago. It is a return to the American League East for Gray, who spent parts of two seasons with the Yankees from 2017-2018.
The 36-year-old was traded to the Yankees during the 2017 season, which he now says was against his desires.
"I never wanted to go there in the first place... but I do appreciate my time there," Gray said, per the Boston Herald's Gabrielle Starr.
Gray pitched to a 4.51 ERA and 1.416 WHIP during his time in New York.
The Yankees eliminated the Red Sox from the playoffs in the Wild Card series this past season.
